Artist Resources No 4: Jason Brubaker

I discovered Jason Brubaker originally through his ReMIND web comic series.  At the time, while I was a huge fan of the series, I did not come to truly appreciate his talent or recognize his influence on me until I stumbled upon his latest series, Sithrah.  There are so many things to love about Jason’s work, and equally more to learn from his career and life.

Jason has run his own podcasts, which I found very insightful, albeit I think he has opted to stop creating his own, and is instead doing guest appearances on a number of other podcasts, including the Oatley Academy’s three-part interview with him. [1, 2, 3].

What is truly inspiring about Jason is success both as an employee at some of the biggest studios in the business including Pixar, but also his wide range of skills.  Even among other professional artists he is considered something of a living legend.  And now, he has taken all of that experience and skill, and moved into self-publishing his own web comics.  To boot, he has a book on self-publishing web comics titled Unnatural Talent.

As an aspiring artist, I have found Jason’s story and approach to his art and his life hugely motivating.  What I find particularly interesting is that even through he is a devout Christian, whereas I am not, I nevertheless find so much of his perspective concentric to my own.  In the end, no matter what you may be looking for in understanding art – whether it is color theory or composition or storytelling or even just how to live a heart-centered life – then Jason has something worth you stopping to listen to.

I’m the creator and operator of this little corner of the internets, writing on all things related to art and more specifically my experiences trying to figure this whole thing out. I guess I’m trying to figure out life, too, but mostly I just post about art here.

Breath some fire into this post!
